Sony to recall 440,000 Vaio Laptops
September 7th, 2008 | by admin |Sony Corporation is recalling 440,000 laptops sold worldwide due to wiring fault detected that could overheat the system. This recall would include 19 different types of Sony Vaio models in the TZ series. This series was manufactured between May 2007 and July 2008. According to Sony the wires have been put in a wrong position near the hinge plus another flaw in the circuit board controller for the LCD screen may also cause the system to be heated.
According to the company 373,000 of the Vaio laptops were sold worldwide in some 48 countries, with 67,000 sold in Japan. The recall would not include the laptops sold in the United Kingdom as according to a Sony UK spokesperson there had been no reported incidents of this potential issue in the products sold in the United Kingdom.
According to Associated Press Report, Sony has received 209 reports of overheating worldwide, including seven incidents where people received minor burns.
Sony said that anyone who believed their machine was part of the recall should contact the firm to organize an inspection and rework of the wiring where needed
